Is Mauritius Internet Infrastructure ready in case of a national lockdown ? (Part I)

The Internet of Mauritius suffers from a number of issues. Bandwidth has often been cited as a problem. However, the way the internet on our island has been built is creating problems. A number of critical services are not available physically in mauritus. In case of Submarine cable problem, we will have problems with whatsapp, instagram and facebook.

Many of those services that Mauritians rely on daily on are located outside of Mauritius. What should we do as a country ? We should have alternatives to Whatsapp, instagram and facebook that are located inside of Mauritius so that we can communicate cheaply among ourselves if the Submarines are cut and ships are not allowed to leave port to repair them.

How can we do that ? By having services hosted within our country for better resiliency.
